Ski season kicks of early

The ski season in Greece kicked off earlier than expected as the mountains in northern Greece received the first snow during this weekend and for the first time ever, the Greek slopes have opened as early as October 26, offering ski fans some “heavy” winter excitement in advance. Two snow centres, Vasilitsa at Grevena and Pisoderi in Florina, are already open and ready for skiers.  At Pisoderi, snow reached a height of 40 centimetres, 20 centimetres at Vasilitsa, 20 centimetres at Anilio in Metsovo and 5 centimetres at Karpenisi. Parnassos and Kalavryta also had a good share of snow.  The snow centres will remain open for as long as the snow holds, with weather predictions suggesting that there will be more snow during the October 28 national holiday on Tuesday as well as over the coming weekend.
