While Athens tries to ease the tension with the US over the prison bill, the US Department of State has issued a statement that designates November 17’s Christodoulos Xiros and Nikolaos Maziotis “under Executive Order 13224” which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism. “As a result of these designations, all property subject to US jurisdiction in which Xiros and Maziotis have any interest is blocked and any assets they may have under US jurisdiction are frozen US persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with Xiros and Maziotis, or to their benefit”, the statement says. “The Department of State took this action in consultation with the Departments of Justice and the Treasury. We will continue to take such actions against terrorists and terrorist groups in Greece and elsewhere”, the statement concludes.
