The country’s state hospitals have been called on to brief authorities regarding their level of readiness and competence against the Ebola threat. The Health Ministry’s general secretary Christina Papanikolaou has asked the hospitals directors’ on Tuesday to inform the ministry by the end of this week on whether their staff has been sufficiently trained to deal with any case that would display symptoms of Ebola and whether steps have been taken to ensure immediate response and timely isolation if a suspicious case emerges.
Meanwhile, the Union representing hospital doctors in Athens and Piraeus has sent a letter to Health Minister Makis Voridis on Tuesday, asking for additional medical staff and equipment to ensure hospitals are fully prepared.
