A total of 680 million euros or 169 euros per household is saved every year with consumers “managing” an average of 11.7 percent cut in their supermarket receipts through offers and gift coupons supermarket chains offer, reports Kathimerini, according to a survey conducted and published by the Research Institute of Retail Consumer Goods (IELKA). Nine in 10 consumers (90.3 percent) save money through such offers, while 69.3 percent of consumers (more than two-thirds) regularly save an average of at least 5 percent on their purchases, and 40.9 percent save at least 10 percent. As the survey showed, the vast majority (78 percent) of consumers is intentionally looking out for offers when shopping in supermarkets, and 63 percent “choose” the supermarket upon the discounts and offers it hands out. The biggest and most frequent offers are seen in the category of washing machine detergents, which present a 34 percent discount rate, with all-purpose flour to follow with 22 percent, same as for pasta.
