More than 40 cases of poisoning, one of which fatal, by wild mushrooms have been reported in Greece over the last month, alerting the authorities. The General Secretariat for Public Health warned Greeks on Wednesday not to consume wild mushrooms. Officials said that 42 people have been taken ill and hospitalised since the beginning of September, including a toddler who remains in intensive care, while a 44-year-old woman has died after eating wild mushrooms.
There are some 2,000 types of mushroom in Greece but the “muscaria” and “phalloides” are the most common.
