The impressive Amphipolis tomb was probably a family tomb, as showed the results of the initial analysis on the bone fragments, announced the Culture Ministry. The remains discovered belong to a 60-year-old woman, two men of about 35-45 years of age, a baby and a man who has been cremated.
Further DNA tests will offer more information on the skeletons and will confirm or refute archaeologists’ speculation that this is indeed a family tomb, officials said.
Determining the identity of the cremated man will be an even more demanding procedure, but archaeologists believe he may have been the first person to be buried, as cremation stopped after the 2nd-3rd centruries AD.
