Greek unemployment remains still the highest in the European Union, rising slightly to 26 pct in December, from 25.9 pct in November, according to a Eurostat’s release on Tuesday. Spain follows having recorded 23.2 pct in February. The unemployed people in Greece numbered 1.23 million in December, with the unemployment rate among men at 23.4 pct, among women at 29.3 pct and at 51.2 pct among young people aged below 25. The unemployment rate in the Eurozone eased to 11.3 pct in February, from 11.4 pct in January, demonstrating the lowest rate since May 2012, while in the EU, it fell to 9.8 pct from 9.9 pct. In total, there were 23.8 million unemployed people in the EU and 18.2 million in the Eurozone. The lowest unemployment rates are recorded in Germany (4.8 pct) and Austria (5.3 pct).
