Athens Mayor presents plan to revamp city centre

Visioning Athens delivering the greatest value of services and infrastructure most important not only to tourists and potential investors but to its residents as well, Athens Mayor Yiorgos Kaminis presented on Monday a plan to revamp the capital’s commercial center. Under the aspiring title “A return to Athens 2015-2020” the plan involves the area sketched out by Praxitelous, Lekka, Pericleous-Athinaidos and Aiolou streets and includes pedestrianization and the improvement of street lighting. Authorities are also to use European funding to exploit 1,800 derelict buildings. “We want Greece to be a destination not only for tourists but also for residents, for professionals, for investments, for young people”, said the Mayor.
