Crete new Kasteli airport construction to be discussed with the Chinese

The Kasteli airport construction project on the island of Crete will be included in the discussions held between Economy Minister Yiorgos Stathakis and representatives of China’s State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), to be held within the coming days, reports Greek daily To Vima. The 900 million euros project, set to become the second largest airport after the Eleftherios Venizelos in Athens, is expected to be operational in five years.
The Greek government is also planning to renegotiate the terms of the concession contract with consortium Fraport-Slentel for the construction and management of 14 regional airports. The participation of the Greek state and the shortening of the concession period are among the topics to be renegotiated.
