The EMST Museum launches on July

After 14 years of “torturous” delays and complex legal and technical processes, the new National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) at the former FIX brewery, will be ready to open this summer. The new museum’s celebrating opening event is to take place in July, as estimated by the Greek Minister of Culture, Panos Panayiotopoulos, who is in constant contact with the EMST Director Anna Kafetsi.

The EMST is the only state-run museum of contemporary Greek and International art in Athens and aims to be Athens’ main attractions for visitors this summer.

The transformation of the old Fix brewery into the EMST was initiated in 2000. Until the building is ready to house the new Contemporary Art Museum, the museum’s collections are under display at the Athens Conservatory venues, since September 2008.

Nearly 15.000 people visited the EMST’s exhibitions at its temporary premises, last year.
