Repairs on earthquake-stricken Kefalonia in development

Repairs on the “wounded” Ionian island of Kefalonia which earlier this year was hit by two strong earthquakes, are going ahead at a good pace and good progress is made, informed the Transport and Infrastructure Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis a parliament committee on Tuesday.

With the tourist season at its peak, applications by local hoteliers for state aid on repairs are being processed as quickly as possible, said the minister. Nine out of the 17 appeals have been approved while the rest are pending, he said, stressing that the total cost of repairs to damaged hotels is estimated at 1.1 million euros.

Subsidies worth 400,000 euros have also been disbursed to nearly 600 families whose homes suffered damages and another 370 appeals are pending, he added.

Repairs on school buildings, damaged roads and other infrastructure, particularly the port of Lixouri, are also moving ahead.
