Exhibition for the 40th anniversary of the restoration of Democracy

An exhibition-tribute to the 40th anniversary of the restoration of Democracy in Greece opens its doors to the public in September at the Eleftherios K. Venizelos Hall in the Greek Parliament building. The exhibition, organized by the Library of Parliament and the Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy, is a journey back to one of the most significant periods in contemporary Greek history, through photographs and videos from the time, official legislative and constitutional documents, newspaper and magazine front pages, as well as posters, political banners, ballots from the 1974 elections and referendum that took place one year after the Cypriot tragedy and the collapse of the military dictatorship.

Addressing to the official inauguration event on Wednesday, President of Republic Karolos Papoulias emphasized that Democracy itself suffered a setback due to the recent crisis, “which probably constitutes the most dramatic side-effect of the economic adventure” and called for “deepening of Democracy and reclamation of economic self-sufficiency”, as necessary conditions for healing the wounds of Greek society, as well as for improving the modus operandi of the system of government.
