The epic scenery of the volcanic Caldera at Santorini Island will once again be the “stage” of breathtaking stunts performed by some of the biggest representatives of the global free running scene who participate to this year’s notorious Red Bull’s Art of Motion Parkour competition. On Saturday, the 4th of October, 18 of the world’s top Parkour athletes from France, Sweden, the United States, the Netherlands, Russia and Greece will express their style against each other in a series of demanding, “do-not-try-this-at-home” challenges. Parkour was developed from military obstacle course training. It first emerged in France during the late 1980s by Raymond Belle, David Belle, and Sébastien Foucan. It became popular in the late 1990s and 2000s, however it is still relatively unknown to Greeks, although it is already a recognized sport with official teams and competitions around the world.
